Swamy Saswathikananda College has been established with the aim of imparting non-conventional, job oriented courses to the students of central Kerala, especially Ernakulam, Kottayam and Alappuzha districts. Strategically placed near the Ernakulam - Kottayam Highway at Puthenkavu, Poothotta, it has already captured the attention of the students and parents looking for an ideal centre of academic excellence  set in an atmosphere conducive for the promotion of higher education. The college campus lies on the western side of the famous Puthenkavu Temple, hugging the palm fringed, breath takingly beautiful Poothotta kayal. The striking edifice building is surrounded by hundreds of coconut trees with their heads bowing in the gentle breeze blowing across the backwaters.

                     Swamy Saswathikananda College is the latest Addition to a cluster of institutions that studs the sprawling green fields belonging to the Poothotta S.N.D.P Yogam branch. At the centre of the complex is the Sree Narayana Sreevallabha Temple consecrated by the World Guru Sree Narayana. His exhoration, "Attain freedom through education" is sincerely followed by the management. Literally thousands of youngsters are put through their paces in education, social upbringing  and all the noble principles of the art of living at these temples of learning. The students and staff are guided by a group of inspired idealists at the helm of the management. The college was sanctioned by the Kerala Government and affiliated with the M.G University in the year 2002.
